I try to publish my posts by 10 am Eastern time every day. That deadline is “soft,” especially on the weekends. If I don’t post on time, some of you email me, worried that something is wrong. Normally it’s a merely a scheduling conflict if I’m late. But not today. Today your concern was warranted.
Despite wearing a mask on the planes and around the airport earlier this week, I knew that I was coming down with a cold following my last trip. A cold? Does an extremely sore throat, chest congestion, chronic cough and a 102 degree fever count? Colds take on a whole new, more serious meaning after you have a stem cell transplant, don’t they?
I didn’t feel well enough to work today. Feeling a bit better now. Temp is down to 101.5 degrees and my fever headache is improving.
Yesterday I had my monthly check-up with my medical oncologist, Dr. Malhotra, and his Physicians Assistant named Ann. I mentioned to her that I felt like I was catching a cold. Ann said my lungs sounded clear and I didn’t have a fever. What a difference 24 hours can make!
I’m guessing that if I was running a 102 degree fever and felt the way I do now, then, they would have tried convincing me to head across the street to Oak Hill hospital. But I try to avoid that option whenever possible. People get sick in hospitals!
Fortunately, I have some antibiotics at the ready that I take along with me on trips, just in case I start coming down with something. Hopefully these bright pink “horse pills” will help. So will staying hydrated.
I hope to get back on track tomorrow. Feel g00d and keep smiling! Pat
