Monday I learned a sad truth: my multiple myeloma is back again. Say goodby to my second remission.
Say goodby? I never really had a chance to say hello! I’m sad, but it’s tough to mourn the loss of something that only lasted 10 weeks.
Last August I learned that by using a combination of Revlimid, Velcade and dexamethasone (RVD), my monoclonal protein number, or M-spike, had dropped to zero.
Pattie and I were elated! But at a follow-up appointment with my myeloma specialist at Moffitt Cancer Center Monday, I was taken-aback to learn that my M-spike had reappeared and registered a measurable 0.2.
Not the end of the world. But what happened to the two years or so I expected to be in remission? I had even stayed on Revlimid and Velcade maintenance, hoping to keep my myeloma away.
Just another kick-in-the-gut! Tomorrow I will share the results from last week’s bone marrow biopsy. I received both good and bad news from the report.
Please don’t worry about me! I recover emotionally a lot more quickly than my now unresponsive bone marrow.
Feel good and keep smiling! Pat
